While much of the focus in Honduras is on the political situation, the U.S. team is far removed here in San Pedro Sula, which is over 100 miles from the capital of Tegucigalpa (one most fun names to say of any country’s capital).
Truth be told, the hotel is very nice, very secure and it feels like any other trip to Central America for World Cup qualifying. There was one very brief moment of excitement at the team dinner, however, when suddenly a huge string of firecrackers went off outside close to the meal room.
Gamesmanship or just some folks celebrating something? Either way, it took only a few seconds to realize that they were fireworks, but the security quickly put and end to any more shenanigans.
The U.S. team won’t train until the late afternoon tomorrow, which will give the players some time to relax in the morning after four good days of training in Miami.
